2022 State Conservation Poster Contest Winners Announced

The Delaware Association of Conservation Districts today announced the winners of its annual
conservation poster contest, which provided students with an opportunity to convey their
artistic impressions about soil, water, and related natural resources based on the 2022 theme,
“Healthy Soil, Healthy Life”.

The 2022 theme, “Healthy Soils, Healthy Life” encourages everyone to learn and discover the
importance of healthy soil to our farms and ranches which provide the food and fiber necessary
to live healthy and productive lives.

First place county level and state winners from New Castle County are:
         -K to 1: Sameera Kuricheti, Odyssey Charter School
         -2 to 3: Nicol Yu: North Star Elementary School
         -4 to 6: Fatima Bambia: Tarbiyah School
         -7 to 9: Khadija Farooq: Tarbiyah School
         -10 to 12: Mariana Fernandez, St. Mark’s High School
         -10 to 12: Digital: Caitlyn Magalon, Delcastle High School

First place county level winners from Kent County are:
         -K to 1: Briana Walls, Clayton Elementary School
         -2 to 3: Colton Cartanza, Smyrna Elementary School
         -4 to 6: Aurora Gray, Clayton Elementary School
         -7 to 9: Madeline Speloch, Smyrna High School
         -10 to 12: Colleen Nicholson, Smyrna High School
         -10 to 12 Digital: No entries

First place county level winners from Sussex County are:
         -K to 1: Israel Adams, Homeschooled
         -2 to 3: Claira Adams, Homeschooled
         -4 to 6: Estrella Nunez Perez, North Georgetown Elementary School
         -7 to 9: No entries
         -10 to 12: Brooke Elliott, Sussex Technical High School

         -10 to 12 Digital: Rebekah Cullen, Sussex Technical High School

Posters were judged on good use of color, good attention to detail, and easy to understand
conservation message, originality and creativity, along with the correct use of the conservation
theme. First, second, and third place winners in each grade category received gift cards for $50,
$25, and $15, respectively, from their local Conservation District office. The first-place state
winners received $50 from the Delaware Association of Conservation Districts.

The state winning posters from New Castle County have been entered into the national poster
contest sponsored by the National Association of Conservation Districts. Winners will be
announced at the annual conference being held February 11 to 15 in New Orleans, LA.
